We have the etc directory just no SSH directory. This is the case on three different VM servers in our cluster.

Right now we're trying to mount a usb drive so we can just copy off the file dell wants. Some partner. They're just giving us half the info we need to get them the data dump they want. Right now the're trying to figure out if we can run vm-support or not. I see in VMware's KB that that file/program is for versions 1 and 2. Obviously vSphere is version 4. Ugh.
