Upgrade servers as you replace. We still have some NetWare boxes in
with SLES10/OES2 along with a SLES 11. And then throw in a few Windows
Application servers. We have GroupWise clustered on SLES10 right now.
That will support the next patch upgrade of 8.0. By the next major
release we should be ready for new hardware so will go with 64bit at
that time.

Sorry, no inplace upgrades from NetWare to SLES. We migrated our user
servers from NetWare to SLES and users never knew the difference.
Running NSS volumes for their data. You can do an NCP mount of your data
volumes but NSS is very stable and I would go that way. eDirectory does
NOT require NSS. My primary eDir server is a SLES10/OES box and the
NetWare boxes talk to it just fine. eDir portion isn't on the NSS
volumes.

It's actually gotten really easy to migrate. The tools have improved a
lot since I did my first server. Get a hold of an unused desktop,
download the software and play. All the services you know and love are
still there. It's only what's under the hood that's changed.

You can do a patterned install now that takes a lot of the guesswork
out of the equation until you get more comfortable with linux.

So that means I need to upgrade all of my servers. The netware servers
right now are on a 64 bit machine. You can*t do an inplace upgrade to
the Linux side can you? I guess I may have to budget for a new server
for GroupWise for the next release.
Now I have been reading about NSS volumes. It looks like I need to
partition using ELVM to do this or setup my system on one drive and then
that NSS on the rest. Or what about users? Can I operate users without
using NSS? Does e-Dir require NSS?
Thanks,

If you want OES services then you need to use SLES10 sp3 OES2 sp1 (?).
OES has not yet been released for SLES 11. If this is just for
GroupWise, go with SLES 11 64-bit. The next major release of GroupWise
will be SLES only, and 64 bit only. You do not need OES installed on the
GroupWise server as long as you have eDirectory out there somewhere.

You can download SLES 10 or 11 free, but there are no patch updates
available after 30 days. So, the O/S is free, you are paying for
support. If you have an SLA with Novell for NetWare, SLES and OES is
covered.

So then which is the better way to go? I have all of my Netware
servers up
and running on OES2. If I wanted to make sure that everything was the
same
across the board I would just install the SLES OES 2 right? For right
now I
am just going to me testing and making it my GroupWise server. Then
over
Christmas or next summer move everything to it.

Last I knew OES 2 was only on SUSE 10?
That's all the netware services running on SLES.

I want to add SUSE to my Netware environment, but there seems to be a
couple
of choices that I need to make first. There is SUSE Linux Enterprise
11 and
then there is SLES 10 sp3 in the Novell OES2 list. I am running on a
32 bit
platform and I only see for the version 11 the 64 bit version. Which
one is
everyone else running?

Also for licenses what do I need as I thought I read that I need a
Novell
license code for Novell stuff and then a Linux code.
