Using Joomla at the ROE46.
Kept our old site up while I fiddled with Joomla, built an inhouse server on
SME to play with Joomla, then when ready I rented space on GoDaddy where our
domain is registered and using akeeba (http://www.akeebabackup.com/) to backup
the site transferred it to GoDaddy where we when operational this Tuesday
(thought it is still a work in progress)

The cost was $47 I spent for a template with drop-down menus.

Weekly input from me will be minimal but that depends upon how crazy the office
wants to get with addons.

I feel learning this program was quite worthwhile. Unfortunately, computers
and people and grants and erate don't wait for me to learn it so there was a
small amount of frustration...but who doesn't experience that?

Addons are great...free form making site, free backup programs and so on.

Total cost was the mentioned $47 for a template.

Subject: [tech-geeks] Website Question

We are in need of an updated website. We are considering either setting up a
box with Joomla internally or contracting a company to create and host it. I
would appreciate any input you all can provide to assist us in our decision.
The Superintendent would like to make a direction decision early next week.

If you run your own Joomla site, can you provide the following:

1. Estimated time to get it set up and running initially.

2. Estimated time spent per week maintaining.

3. Short description of the hardware you run it on.

4. Estimate of $$ spent on software or add-ons.

5. Link to your site for comparison of look and feel.

If you have contracted a company to create and host your site:

1. Company you contract with.

2. Initial cost to get started.

3. Yearly fees to maintain.

4. Do you change or upload content or do you have to send it to someone
to do it?

5. Link to your site for comparison of look and feel.

If there is any other information you feel is important to consider, feel free
to include.

     Thank you in advance.
