That's rough - I've ran Joomla for two and a half years and must admit that I have not been the best about updates but have never had a problem. I also host it at the school - not on GoDaddy.
Please tell me you have a backup sitting around. When I think of it I run JoomlaPack and then save the resulting backup locally on a different machine. In a worse case then you just need to wipe everything clean, drop the mysql dbs, start fresh. Recreate the dbs, upload the full install of whatever version you were running (I'm running 1.5.20), install joomlapack and then you should be able to recover everything (but I have not tried that before.) --Michael T.
