You can always buy off of ebay for dirt cheap. If all you need is cheap switches it is the place to go. I bought 6 Cisco 2950's for $200. That way I have something that is exactly what I currently have and now have spares and spare parts. Hopefully then I can save up for buying newer gear, but I know that I am safe and don't have to worry about switches dying and not being able to replace. Since Cisco has acquired Linksys I have seen a plethora of new cisco devices that appear to be Linksys type equipment branded with cisco, even wrapped in the green box. If it was a dumbed down cisco IOS it would probably be ok, but I have a feeling it’s more of an advanced Linksys OS. Just my opinion. I am used to doing 100% of my cisco configurations via command line on the 29xx, 35xx, 45xx, and 65xx series switches. I would look into the 29xx series cisco gear or even HP Procurve, depending on your layer 2/ layer 3 needs. They're a good compromise if you can't afford the 3560/3750 class and don't need layer 3 routing.
