Thanks Abe,

I know there has been a lot of time and effort put into this project and I for
one hope that it succeeds and prospers.

[ Hopefully someone will step in, if I talk out of turn here. There are
others that have been more involved than me. That darn day job keeps
getting in the way. ]

I've been on a couple of conference calls (and I've missed a few), but
here is a slightly more detailed recap of what Tobin just said:

- The POC still exists. There are schools and entities with data in the
cloud. Our start-up equipment still exists, and is still running.
Without the federal funding, we won't be able to ramp up the bandwidth
at one of our datacenters quite as soon as we had hoped. So, that does
hinder somewhat the number of services coming out of that site.

- We are moving forward with the creation of a new entity/Coop. The
administration of the IlliniCloud needs to be a living/breathing entity,
not reliant upon the whims of a parent organization (school, agency,
etc.) So, the group has gathered example documentation from various
CO-OP organizations, including the Cooperating School Districts
organization that is very active in MO. And, they have been holding
meetings/conference calls with various folks attempting to put it
together. Vicki DeWitt vdew...@lth5.k12.il.us would be happy to answer
any questions about this aspect of the project.

- The original group of organizers is still highly involved. In fact,
the group has morphed into a preliminary advisory council and several
new members have been added to the group.

- Basically, the technology is ready to roll. We're a little light on
some bandwidth, but the equipment is in place. As usual, we have to
wait on the business side of things. We can't very well move the
technology forward, until we can take in money. And, it can't take in
money until there is an entity to take it in.

- As for SaaS issues... there was some talk with Learn360 and Discovery
Education about hosting their content in the cloud. Discovery was not
as interested in providing discounts as we had hoped they would have
been. There were also a lot of talks with folks at Zimbra to provide
enterprise e-mail. Unfortunately, in the end, their prices weren't as
attractive as we originally thought either. I believe at least 1 SIS
vendor has contacted us to discuss co-hosting their product in the
cloud. BUT, before any of these kinds of agreements can be made...
there has to be an entity created to make the agreement.

Hopefully, that helps a bit. I'll try to answer any other questions
that you may have. We all feel your pain and uncertainty, caused by the
lack of communication. It isn't because there isn't anything being
done. It's mostly because there isn't a lot to report. We're working
on paperwork now. It was going to have to be done, anyway. But, we
were hoping we would have had more funding to pay for more help to make
it go faster. :)

Thanks,
Abe
