The video quality is usually better/faster when going straight to VGA,
rather than through USB to the PC. But, there are a lot of cool
features that make the USB option nice.

I knew I had to be missing something and sure enough it is the USB-to-PC
connection....which makes sense of course as there is a software suite
included...
Thanks - that is all I needed pointed out...

most of the document cameras will either use your existing vga
cable, that the computer plugs into, or if their is a computer
connected already can be usb connected to the computer. At least in
the ones I've used, no additional cable to the projector was needed.

I believe we are going to get several document cameras.
I am not asking for suggestion on which brand/model to look at.
I am not clear on how best to "install" them. As far as I can
tell there will need to be a cable of one kind or another
running up to a projector...
Has anyone found an elegant way to route cables that allows for
flexibility without a mess?
