You can specify more than google calendar to display. They do not need to be merged into a single calendar.
If you look at the embedding code google offers for each calendar, you can pull out the unique string/url and add it to another calendar's so they both appear. What I have found the easiest is to just use the Google Embeddable Calendar Helper. It will let you pick and choose which calendars that you have access to you want to mash up together and it generates the code - then you can take whatever pieces of the generated code you need. --Michael T.
