Not if school power went out in the middle of the night when you were at home in bed. It actually gives status updates (up to 7 per day according to the website) so you have some idea when it will come back on. We have some fairly substantial monitoring on our power so we know when it goes down, comes back up and when UPS batteries are about to die. But if it were not for this monitoring, the ComEd txt would be useful for letting me know we were down and when we were back up. I will still probably use it for status updates.
