Anything should be able to run that. I have two setups. Bothe have effectively 
run 400+ systems. ipcop on one and pfsense on the other. I wouldn't trade 
either for a proprietary system o do the same thing.

That being said, I have been in cases where cisco/sonicwall etc systems have 
been installed to run systems. Something like a cisco ASA 5505 would be good 
enough.  

I have worked with schools all over the country and there are many different 
setups which don't follow size/numbers etc. I have seen schools running 18,000 
computer systems with dual pfsense carp failover firewalls. But I have worked 
with a school who had 18,000 computer systems and a good sized sonicwall 
appliance.

So really whatever you choose to go with, make sure YOU can support it. Make 
sure it will run and make sure the hardware will hold up. Make sure you can 
scale it to say 20-100mbps if needed.
