Eric:
Using the .75 amp fan will work just fine,  just because it draws less
current does not necessary mean it has less air movement, the fans are rated in
cfm (cubic feet per minute) air flow movement. the faster they spin the more
noise they make. I have made variable speed controls on these case style fans
using a fixed and variable resistor across the 12 volt line.be careful on 3
wire fans they have a sense connection to the system board. Bottom line if the
.75 amp fan is working use it. If it's not broke don't fix it.!!!

Usually, if it draws more amps it more than likely spins faster. I would check
the RPMS on the original and the new one, you may not be getting enough air
flow.
Just my 2¢.

Thank you,

I would say yes.  They are both the same voltage.
The first one would draw 1.5 Amps maximum.
The second would draw .74 Amps.
You can draw less on circuits.  More can be bad.
It can burn out devices and cause the voltage to drop.

My Dell PE 1600SC server had the back cooling fan fail and it kept shutting
down the server. I found a replacement online to order, but in the meantime I
took a fan out of an old PE2400 server (same size) and it appears to be working
OK. Here is my question:

The original fan was labeled 12.5 V, 1.5 A
The one I am using is 12.5 V 0.74A

Am I OK to use this unit, with the different Amp rating, until my replacement
arrives?

Eric
