Belvidere just implemented FitnessGram 9 (I drew the short straw for setting it up) this Fall. It's only in use (and only licensed) for one of our 2 high schools. I don't have any data on whether it is or isn't being used successfully. But I concur with Aaron here with regard to support. It took nearly a week to get this @%*^!$ software set up. It needs an SQL backend, and uses IIS for its webserver. I got a download link from an Email from Human Kinetics (which I've always thought highly-of, as a book publishing company). However, that Email omitted the serial number/license key. It took a couple hours on the phone to get someone at Human Kinetics who had heard of the software (which is particularly odd, since they sell it and publish it). The next problem took about 3 days to overcome, because no one would support me without a license key. I didn't have the license key provided to me. And all Human Kinetics would keep saying was: "I'm sorry. Without a license key, you can't talk to technical support." I'd say that I understood that, but could prove to them that less than 10 days ago, we gave them a pile of money. And they said, "Well, we Emailed the license key to someone in your District, you're just going to have to find them." Beyond that, their installation instructions omitted 2-3 crucial steps, as I remember.
It all got sorted out eventually, but it was an extremely unpleasant experience. I hope I don't draw the short straw again the next time this product needs supporting. We have the network version that uses MSSQL which seems pretty excessive for the half dozen PE teachers that use it but because we use it in multiple buildings their license requires it. We are running version 8 which has a client that is installed on each PC that access server. They just sent me a flier about ver 9 which is web-based (yet, still hosted internally from what I can tell). >From my experience support is pretty worthless, but I've only talked to them >once during an upgrade. Overall, it just runs and I hear very little from >the PE teachers about it. which is a good thing, I guess.
