I'm working with a company that's trying to use NetBSD for a turnkey product. It works with 9.1; they're trying to move to 10.x for better hardware support (9.x lacks support for the Ethernet chip in a machine they want to switch to as their hardware platform).
Problem is, 10.x performance is *miserable* in one respect, important for their use case: starting X takes foreeeeever. To cut the new hardware out of the list of suspects, I got them to take one of their 9.* machines and boot it with a 10 kernel but no other changes; it is still much slower (as in, 30 seconds sitting at the root weave before X is running enough to work). I got them to capture dmesg output for both kernels. I've edited one of them to remove the company name, not because I think they care but because I'm not sure they don't (I haven't got hold of anyone to ask); "elided" or "ELIDED" are those replacements. The 9.1 kernel does have some changes, mostly to the parallel-port code - nothing that I would expect to bear on X startup. I can go into more details on the changes if anyone wants.
