That's the standard used by WaveLAN. It's a 2.4GHz radio transceiver, not
laser. Its range is limited to under 1000 feet out of the box, but with a
good (illegal) antenna, and perhaps amplification, 7km range is said to be
possible. I think there are interference problems.
