(As much as I like bottom-posting, trimming's good, too.)

Thus spake Juiceman (juiceman69 at gmail.com) [15/05/06 17:39]:
: Wouldn't a simple .zip file of these 4 files and the installer solve
: this issue for the most part with minimal effort? How about a
: self-extracting .zip file?

I think the point here is to make this, er, point-and-click friendly. If
the install includes any of 'Download this...', or, 'Double-click on this,
extract it here...', installation becomse significantly /less/ feasible for
the average user.

To keep up with the status quo, there should be /one/ file to be downloaded
and double-clicked (or single-clicked as the case is becoming). Anything
more than that throws up a huge mental barrier -- as it's a deviation from
the norm -- to installation, thus drastically reducing Freenet's viability
on a standard home PC.

(Whether or not that's the target market at this point is a whole other
kettle of fish.)

I frankly don't see what's wrong with offering a monolithic installer, so
long as that target audience is within the scope of Freenet's target
audience. The offering of a monolithic installer does not preclude the
offering of any other type of installer.

(My $0.02, after watching the list for three days after a good two year's
absence.)
