Well I pulled the cable out of the wall connector while it was still
connected to my switch and held a piece of paper against it and could
see a light on the paper which tells me my fiber module is working. I
then connected it to the wall outlet and went to the other end in the
NOC and did the same thing and no light. So maybe a little creature in
the walls did some munching.

And for the same reason, you don't want to aim your camera directly at
the light -- the laser can burn the sensor on your camera just as easily
as it can burn your retina.
