Just an unscientific data point; but I have at least three production servers with 3 disk raid1 layout in MD that have had no problems (other than the crappy disks failing.) I used this configuration because I knew I was setting out with crappy disks and a nvidia sata chipset that didn't support sata hot swap with the kernel I was using. I mean, I guess I could have left the disks in as hot spares, but eh, I'm paying for the disk, so I might as well get the increased read performance. I mean, there may be weird corner cases, but it worked fine with me (using the 2.6.18 kernel that comes with xen 3.x) -- Luke S.
