I currently use (and was using before Windows 7) Cygwin/X

I had looked at Xming (when I upgraded to Windows 7)...but the current version
required registration? and the free version is rather old.

The only problem I've run into is running multiple monitors, where they differ
in vertical resolution.

It creates a single uniform rectangle for the X screen....but my left monitor
is 1600x1050 and my right monitor is 1920x1080....which causes NetBackup to get
drawn on my left monitor with all the window controls above the top edge of the
screen, so I can't move it, etc. Haven't tried X on Windows 7 at work...though
shouldn't be as bad, since left monitor is 1920x1080 and right monitor is
1280x1024.

Though I did jump on the 23" debranded monitor on Woot the other day...so guess
my X problem at home will be fixed soon. :)
