I have to replace the SCSI cards in one of my production servers. Yes I had a spare but the spare might be bad as well. Anyway I need to get an Adaptec 29160. When I search for these I get a lot of places that have them but they are OEM units. Years ago I had issues with an adaptec card that was a pull from a Dell and was an oem card. The unit I was using it in was not a dell but I figured all cards of that number are equal. Well things wouldn't work especially with scanners and other things I attached to the external connector. A call to Adaptec tech support got me the answer that I would have to contact Dell since they sold the card to Dell as an OEM and they could have done something to the bios.
I just tossed the card and never bought them again but I am wondering have any other folks on the list had issues using a SCSI card that was an OEM pull from one system to another? My system is running SCO and has the ad160 driver loaded into the kernel so that is why I need to stay with that model card. Otherwise I have to do a fresh install which is something I dread. Meanwhile I am still searching for one of these cards that isn't an OEM. TIA John J.
