The last time I was a solo sysadmin we were a small school within a
larger university. We had some people who knew how to do some routine
tasks, then we contracted with another sysadmin group to provide
backup support if needed. I made sure they had access to all our
documentation, and my boss had a sealed envelope with *all* the root
and network passwords. (in a solo shop, *someone* should ALWAYS have
an envelope like this at all times!!!)

My boss was technical enough to give an overview of what services we
had and how they were provided; if there isn't someone like that I'd
try to give a brief tour before disappearing.
