We have decided to purchase an Equallogic 16x1TB SATA array, but it has
not been ordered yet, and obviously we have not used it extensively (we
did have one for evaluation purposes for about two weeks).
We looked at both the EMC CX4 and the Equallogic. For us, the Equallogic
made more sense -- we don't need fiber channel, iSCSI looks the be
within our price and requirements.
*IF* I am remembering correctly, one limitation of the EMC CX4 is that
all the disks are on one (shared) FC loop, so the max storage bandwidth
(regardless of how many disks) is limited to the internal FC bandwidth.
It looked to us that the Equallogic scales easily, and as storage is
added, both bandwidth and processing capacity are added.
Additionally, (again, this is from memory) EMC charges extra for
different software features, while Equallogic includes everything for
one price, and for us, that price was reasonable.
We also looked at other iSCSI SAN vendors (not all, I'm sure -- there
seem to be many of them). Some were interesting, but Equallogic made the
most sense to us in price, features, and support.
Sorry I can't provide more specifics,
