Depends on what you are labeling.  If file folders, personal equipment, radios, 
etc. then I like the Brother p-touch.

If labeling hundreds of cables or systems, or you want bar codes, then a Brady 
esp one of the "programmable" ones.  With
those you can make a template and have it then increment numbers and patterns 
within the template, eg:  cable001,
cable002, etc.  Some directly interface to a computer for *really* programmable 
labels.  *Not* cheap.
