When this topic comes up, historically, I'm usually among the first to
spout off about how the Brady TLS2200 is, hands down, the greatest
label printer we've ever used.

The problem we have with the Brady product is cost. Not of the
printer, but of the labels. Between ribbons and labels, 250 labels can
run well over a hundred dollars in materials costs. When we recently
rolled out a new facility, the local contractor, who we hadn't worked
with before, showed up with SHEETS of cable-labels, using materials
and software from Panduit. They are printed using standard laser-
printers or inkjet-printers, and come in letter-size sheets like one
might expect.

Now, we're in the process of deploying using both methods. We have a
Brady in the cabinets for "one-off" labeling jobs, so there's no
excuse for them not to get labeled. But when we want to label both
ends of 20-30 new cables, we will use the MUCH cheaper Panduit sheets,
which are functionally identical, and fedex those to the data-center
for the Colo staff to apply to the cables. We're talking pennies per
label as opposed to over a dollar per label.

Cheers,
D
