I did have a link forwarded to me, which I found very valuable: "Microsoft's Office Web Apps - Google killing not included" http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/27/office_2010_web_apps_review
I found the title interesting, because the article is only illustrating an approximately equal review of google apps, and office web apps. But they didn't even mention the one thing that I care about the most ... Keeping my company's private data out of the hands of google. So I have control of the security, and so there exists some possibility for backups. Also, as mentioned in the article, the functionality of the web version pales in comparison to the installed version on your computer. But that has always been true of the web version of google apps, too. So I also really care about having access to the files via CIFS. This way you're satisfying (a) the people who want to access their docs remotely without VPN or CIFS (b) the people who want fully featured installed applications, and are willing to go over CIFS to do it, and (c) the IT person and CFO, and CEO, who can't afford to risk the company jewels without any safetynet. _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
