I have done more research.  The reason it is turned off is that the number 
of unique visitors is so high that Apache winds up with too many idle 
threads eating up too much memory which also crashes the box.  I'm trying 
to chase down what KeepALiveTimeout is set to, perhaps it is higher than 
it need to be.
