I don't have my OpenBSD machine online atm, but ... an IPv4 address can be
legitimately presented as a 32-bit integer.  I would guess this might be why
ping is behaving this way.

eg, on darwin (which i do have at hand), ping 167772161 will successfully ping
10.0.0.1
