Hi Everyone!

I'm now the proud owner of a Billion BiPAC 7404VNPX ADSL wireless VOIP router
and its more complex and more powerful than anything I've worked with before.

You can take a look at the specs and other data for this device at

Hi!

This machine is about the size of my Apple Time Capsule so given that this
machine replaced my modem I had to first do some modification to my desk to
allow room.

The router uses a configuration of 3 antennai for its wireless capabilities and
they're in the shape of a triangle, 1 at the rear and 1 on either side.

As you'd expect this router has Wireless N facilities though it only seems to
transmit/receive on the 2.4GHZ band so its unlike the wireless facility on my
Time Capsule and Airport Express which were both able to use 2.4 and 5.8GHZ
bands similtaniously though I'm not too worried about this, I'm sure I'll still
be able to get the benefit on my network out of the 5.8GHZ spectrum with my
Time Capsule and other airport devices some how, that's the nice thing about a
good network, so many possibilities it seems and so many options.

The router has a 4 port gagabyt switch as part of it as well as 2 phone ports
as part of its VOIP offerings.

Other interesting points, you can plug in a USB modem for backup purposes
should the ADSL line go down.

You can use a serial lead to plug into a LINYX machine to correct serious
errors with the router should they occur such as corrupted firmware upgrades
and so on, I've never heard of such things being done with routers before as I
was always under the impression that if a firmware upgrade had become corrupted
then that was the end of the device pretty much.

There is some sort of automatic wireless setup procedure you can use with the
router though I didn't bother to look into this as I prefer to do that sort of
thing manually.

HTML interface is very easy to get around and very accessible though I had
problems with Windows machines and Window-Eyes which seems to be the norm these
days, worked well with Internet Explorer and NVDA. Was able to use the
interface without problems with my Mac computers and safari.

There is one annoying thing about the Billion HTML interface and I've fallen
victim to this on both my older Billion Modem and the new router, when you
click the "Save Changes" link you must also click on the "Apply" button and the
Screen Reader doesn't tell you its appeared so if its not clicked and you "Log
Out" to "Restart" then all your changes are lost and you have to start again.
