Hi Chris Yes, I too remember the introduction of "NiCam" which brought stereo sound to UK television. I'm guessing that it was in the late 80s or early 90s. I personally made the mistake of ordering a "NiCamiser" from a company whose name I cannot remember. I cancelled the order when they eventually told me it would take 3 months to deliver but although they never took payment, the box turned up a couple of weeks later.
I used that box for a while but it had problems and there was a great deal of distortion on it. So I ultimately replaced all of the equipment with new NiCam-equipped video and TV. Ah yes, it seems like yesterday. I too remember the good old days of Tyne Tees Television before it was swallowed up by the bigger groups. Yes, I remember Lynn Spenser (may she rest in peace), and Neville Wonlas. I also remember the Tyne Tees test card and their morning signature tune. A wonderful tune combining Bobby Shaftow and the Bladen Races into one single tune. I really wish I could find a recording of that music. Anyway, I'm rambling, and I have to say that although the technologies of TV have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years, I do find the content of UK TV very much inferior to how it was in the 60s and 70s and, just about, the early 80s. After that point it really went downhill and today a lot of it is just junk. I could talk for hours about this subject, but I don't want to waste people's bandwidth with my waffling. :) Gordon On 20 May 2012, at 11:04, Chris Moore <[email protected]> wrote: yup that us, end of an era. Actually speaking of Tyne Tees, I miss their logo. I always thought it looked like a old fashioned gas kettle :) Does not seem like 5 minutes since they introduced NICAM Stereo! I rushed out on the day of go live and bought a £500 Sharp VHS recorder so I could listen to the then banned Madonna video which was being show cased on 'The Word' on channel 4 that night in glorious stereo! A TV milestone for me before HD. ======================================= The Techno-Chat E-Mail forum is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free To modify your subscription options, please visit for forum's dedicated web pages located at http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/techno-chat You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Techno-Chat group at either of the following websites: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/techno-chat/index.html Or: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> you may also subscribe to this list via RSS.
