Hello David

If you want to use it on our server, just use the usual web address,
https://files.mac-access.net and leave the ports as default. Be sure to select
"WebDAV" as your protocol and optionally have it open at log-in and you're good
to go.

Thanks Gordon
I have downloaded this from the Mac-Access Software Repository as it looks
very useful indeed.
I wonder what the settings I should use on this utility though.
I have tried it out on my windows laptop first.
Firstly I inserted it into one of the allowed programs under windows
Firewall.
I then ran the program.
I then used files.mac-access.net as the server address.
The program then defaulted to port 22 which I did not change.
I put in my user login and password.
I then tried to connect.
The utility appeared to connect but then reported that the server was not
responding.
I then experimented with changing the port to 21 and 990 and the utility
could not connect.
I tried changing the address to ftp.mac-access.net but still no success.
Any idea where I may be going wrong?

David Griffith.

Subject: ExpanDrive for Mac and Windows

Hi all

I've been meaning to write about this little utility for quite a while.
ExpanDrive comes for both Mac OS X and Windows. It allows you to connect to
a remote server such as ours, supporting FTP, SFTP and WebDAV. WebDAV is by
far the best protocol you could use for remote file transfers. It is
secure, fast and easy to configure. The Mac OS X Finder utilises WebDAV in
fact, when you connect remotely to another Mac as a network volume. Samba,
although supported, doesn't seem to be very well implemented at all under
Mac OS X. Windows, on the other hand, doesn't support WebDAV at all and
that's quite an important oversight. And that's where ExpanDrive comes in.
If you're one of those people who, for instance, has a Take Control
bookshelf on our secure server, you could quite literally have our server
opened when you log into your account on the machine and you'd see your
bookshelf as just another drive or volume. If you have editable files, you
are able to load them into
a text editor and directly edit them on the remote volume.

If you're interested to know more about this little utility, its website is
here:
<http://www.expandrive.com>
where you can download both Mac OS X and Windows versions. The utility
sells for a very reasonable price, from memory, and as soon as I get around
to it I plan on installing it on our Windows systems so that I can have our
server remotely open when the machine starts. Much of what we do relies on
access to the server and this will simplify the process greatly.

Gordon
