Hi David I'm not privy to what Guide Dogs for the blind are doing at the moment but I can tell you one thing. On the website of RNIB, and on the manufacturer's website for iGlasses, they are highly recommended for guide dog owners. Also, I have a friend who is and has been a guide dog owner for years, She says her trainers encourage the iGlasses and she wouldn't go out without them now.
Go figure. I think there's probably different consensus depending on who you talk too and where you happen to be located. But I don't see that the Guide Dogs for the Blind have any business telling you to refrain from purchasing something like this. To be honest, if it were me I'd be telling them to mind their own damned business! As somebody who has used a guide dog in the past, all be it a long time ago, I am sure that these iGlasses would help you even if you had a dog. The dog cannot be responsible for everything you might encounter. They are clever dogs indeed if they will help me with this. apparently the dog in final stage training is taught to regularly look behind at your height and then forward to judge upcoming hazards . during my training they have constantly asked me to adjust my posture so that this process of head height obstacle finding is easier for the dog to assess. I have discussed I Glasses with Guide Dogs and they have asked me to refrain from a purchase until I have tried using a dog for some time. The only problem with that is that I have waited for over a year with no sign yet of a dog. I am, therefore, seriously thinking of getting I Glasses in the meantime. There will also be occasions you do not go out with a dog so I suppose they would come into play then. Subject: Re: iGlasses, Update Hi William No, not completely. An obstacle can be head high, such as an overhanging branch. It isn't realistic for a guide dog to be expected to notify you of those. I think you've missed the point here, to be fair.
