Hi!

Okay, another radio for review and this time its a set I never thought I'd give
a mention to.

I once owned a Grundig Replay DAB+ Radio but took it back to the store in
disgust having only had the radio for a few days, this set was the absolute
worst I'd tried, the least sensitive out of all the DAB+ radio sets I've used
etc.

Someone I knew bought one of these radios and asked me to lend a hand in
setting the radio up so I was able to play with the radio for a few days and
what a difference, I put this down to the fact that a firmware update for the
Replay radio had been released in late 2011.

The radio now performs well and has some added features that weren't available
before the update, I just received my own Replay radio so here's the lowdown.

This radio is designed for a kitchen or bedside, its a clock radio though it
has some most useful traits that you'd often find in more expensive DAB+ radio
sets.

The Grundig Replay will set you back around $200.00 but that's money well spent.

The radio has a 4 inch mono speaker which sounds very nice, if you like your
stereo DAB+ sound then you can plug the radio into a set of headphones or
connect the radio to a Hi-Fi system via the 2 RCA line-out sockets on the back.

Buttons on the front are well laid out and the set is easy to operate even
without sight though you may wish to take some notes on the layout of the
buttons and what they do. For example, if you wish to "Record" the currently
playing broadcast, press the record button, then select and press record again,
recording starts.

The recordings are made to a SD card which slots into the front of the radio,
you can then play the recordings back through the radio, edit the recorded
files on a computer and so on.

The clock doesn't need to be set as the settings are obtained automatically
from DAB+ broadcasts.

The radio has 2 independent alarms which can be set for different times and
different modes, radio or buzzer and you'll will need sighted assistance to set
these.

A nice touch to this radio is the flexible recording features which allow 3
different programmes to be recorded at 3 different times, you might decide to
have ABC'S PM recorded daily from Mondya to Friday and another programe
recorded on Sunday morning, again sighted assistance is required to set this up
but I have managed to set a recording without sight by remembering the steps to
follow in the menu.

Unfortunately this radio doesn't run on battery power and I would have liked to
see stereo speakers but no matter, the radio offers quite enough to make up for
this.

And before I forget, if you're too lazy to reach over to the radio and press
any one of its buttons then you can use the convenient credit card type remote
controller that comes with the radio, thankfully the remote has quite a good
range so can be used some distance away from the radio itself.
