Hi Everyone!

Its my habit on a Thursday to read the "Green Guide" section of The age, one of
our local Newspapers, as a rule there isn't all that much in the Guide to do
with technology, its more about who's on TV however there are occasions when I
read something out of there which leaves me shaking my head in wonder - big and
heavy head <smile>. -

Take the "Sight And Sound" column this week which dealt specifically with DVD
players, I had thought that DVD players had died a natural death due to Blue
Ray but I'm very much mistaken.

If a DVD player is all you want then they're yours for the taking at bargain
basement prices and we're really talking bargain basement prices.

3 different models were reviewed from LG, Sony and Toshiba and all were under
$50 however I'd only seriously consider buying the Toshiba as it was the only 1
of the 3 which had a Component Video output, this means that the DVD player
could connect to a HD TV though nothing over 100Cm.

I remember when DVD first came onto the market in 1999, at that time I remember
the going price for the cheapest DVD player was around $600.00 and you didn't
get all that much as far as the player was concerned, some DVD formats it
wouldn't play, DVD regions had to be considered and so on, it wasn't too many
years down the track when DVD players started to really become useful, I bought
a Panasonic DVD player in 2003 which had no region restrictions, could play MP3
and WMA audio formats, had multi speed playback and all for the rock bottom
price we thought then of $200.00

The DVD players talked about in the Green Guide this week do all that and more,
all 3 models are capable of supporting external USB Memory sticks so you can
play content from those, the LG will even let you insert standard CD'S and
record tracks from your CD collection to your USB Memory Stick, I hate to use
that banned work but I'm going to anyway, "Amazing!"
