Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. I am not an
electrical engineer nor do I play one on tv but I do have a
two-year technical certification in Electrical and Computer
Technology and the amateur radio Extra Class license which,
while it doesn't say that you know everything, says that you are
seriously interested in the topic of how electrical stuff works.
What I have noticed as I get older is how little I actually know
and how much there is to learn since knowledge is such a moving
target.
The way I describe the process of learning technology is
to discover why things go wrong or go weird. Why do you
sometimes hear radio stations on the public address system when
there is no radio there? Why do light bulbs burn out and could
we make one that doesn't? Why do some clocks gain time and
others loose time?
There is no one answer to most of these seemingly silly
questions but the research you have to do to find out some of the
answers is an exciting journey that can lead to more knowledge
and sometimes, new discoveries.
I haven't made any new discoveries, but it is really
interesting to learn why weird stuff happens and that not every
strange report means somebody is crazy. It just may mean they
were observant and that, folks, is what the process of learning
is all about.
I've been interested in scientific and mechanical systems since
I was 4 or 5 years old so, to me, this is play.
I never quite grew out of it.
