Hi Dane and all,

Dane, re iOS and app switcher --

1. You can easily close all apps at once. To do so on any iOS device,
press and hold the power button as though you want to close down the
phone. When the 'power off' screen appears asking you to 'slide to
power off', instead press and hold the home button for about 3 seconds.
It will return you to the home screen. If you open the app switcher
again, you will see all apps still appear there that were open before,
but if you 'run' an app from there, it will totally refresh itself
because the process was previously killed. And as it also returned you
to the home screen automatically, it kills two of your gripes with one
stone. Hee hee.

By the way, for anyone's interest, closing of apps hasn't been necessary
since the days of iOS 6 or 7. When you don't have an app open in front
of you, it isn't chewing up RAM or battery being open. Therefore, it
doesn't matter if you have one app open or 40. The phone will perform
the same. There is a setting somewhere that allows you to determine if
apps can refresh in the background or not, but whether they do or not is
not determined by whether the app is running.

Example: Facebook. If the app is not running, by default (with
background app refresh turned on), it will still poll Facebook's servers
intermittenly looking for the presence of new notifications so that it
can tell you how many 'new/unread' items you have to look at.

So other than using the app switcher to...well, switch from one open app
to another conveniently, it needn't be used to manually close apps in
some effort to free up memory or speed up the device, or save battery.

I believe Android is not the same in this regard however, which is why
there may be a tendency to want to close apps?

Sorry for the long-winded reply. Hope it's useful.

Cheers!

Ted

Okay well according to the article I'm reading right now the HomePod
won't be available until 1 December world wide so that gives you plenty
of time to save for one <smile>.

The price is competitive no doubt about that though I wonder how good it
will actually sound when it arrives? Plenty of time to think about that.

There's no doubt that Apple iPads are still the best tablets going
around, I've not seen anything in the Android world that comes close as
far as build and quality go, I won't say anything about performance as
I'm sure there are some very good performing and fast Android tablets
out there but my questio nstill is, why can't Samsung or anyone else
build a Tablet as well as they build a phone?

So IOS has more features? Well I don't know what I think about that to
be honest.

I'm running the latest IOS on my iPhone 6 and some of the functionality
just bemuses me.

For example take the "Apps Switcher" function, a damn nuisance to get in
and out of in my opinion, press the "Home" key twice? Well that's easy
enough but what then.

Okay, you close each App one by one, no way of closing all Apps with a
gesture or anything like that.

So having searched around and - hopefully - finding all the Apps - and
closed them - you still have to get out of the "App Switcher" to get to
the home scren, no inteligence there to automatically take you out of
the switchers given there are no Apps open.

Then why does the phone automatically wake up and start speaking when
you move it? A pain in rear for sure an iPhone doing that.

Yep, my ignorance I'm sure, I've not kept up with what the iPhone and
IOS has been doing though - from what I've described thus far - I don't
think I'm missing much.
