I originally had to send my Sony CRTs that were replaced in warranty for recycling to any of seven Recycle America facilities that were designated by Sony (of course they want you to use the one that is closest to you). The closest at that time was in Pittsburgh, PA but when I sent one of the CRTs there, I got a call from Consolidated Freight (at that time, this is who Sony was using in their CRT recycling program as they had special rates for it) stating the facility was closed. As it turned out, they were correct so I had to reconsign it to the next closest facility in Kernersville, NC. Then Sony switched the program to Watkins when Consolidated Freight went out of business. I have been sending CRTs to Kernersville ever since. Now, in a notice dated 11/03/2003 from Sony, they have switched to Bax Global for this program and there are only 4 facilities left to send them to (AZ, TX, MN, and NC). I recently sent my first CRT with Bax Global to Kernersville, NC and Bax Global called me about a half hour ago stating that facility is closed and wanted to know what I intend to do with this shipment. I am currently on the phone with the Sony parts dept (on hold) inquiring if this Kernersville facility is indeed closed and what is going on. I tried calling the Kernersville facility at the phone number given in the Sony document (336-996-5500) but it gives me a message to call 866-588-0572 which is a main office for Waste Management and they have no idea what I am talking about. Sony parts has just come back on the phone and they are not currently aware of any changes but they were unable to contact the "CRT" person. They are going to investigate and call me when they find out. In fact, Sony parts was not aware that the program had been switched from Watkins to Bax Global so they are requesting I fax them this revision notice dated 11/03/2003. I can't imagine I am the only one with this problem so I was wondering if any other Sony servicers had encountered this yet?
