I've never seen a yoke with bad convergence windings but I do concur that's what it appears to be. Perhaps you could put a 100w bulb across the fuse to allow more "on" time and unplug the VY and VU connectors individually to try and isolate whether the problem is with the blue or red. I thought that I'd heard about a distributor who is providing replacement aftermarket yokes for those sets. But it's been a number of years since I've seen one with good tubes. No reason to get in to deep unless the customer is willing to pay big bucks for a crappy picture.

I walked in to his home with new STK4274's and found that the 1.6 amp fuse (F8A0) was blackened and of course open. This fuse is for the +20 volt supply. The -20 volts was fine. I replaced the STKs and the fuse and within 2 seconds the fuse opens. I can find no obvious shorts or loads so I also replaced the STK4275 focus IC which also uses this supply and still have the same conditions. If I remove either connector "VY" or "VU" from the convergence board individually, the fuse does not blow but the resistors R8K6 and R8L2 (for connector "VY") or R8J7 and R8K3 (for connector "VU") will start cooking really quick due to no load. I do not have the service manual so I called Mitsubishi Tech Assist from the customer's home because I suspect either the red or blue yoke (part# 330P116010 which is NLA) might be the culprit but I had no way to tell which if either was it and Mitsubishi had no reports of this symptom and were at a loss of what else it could be or how to check the yokes. Before I condemn the set, I figured I would ask if anyone has encountered this previously as you all know I hate to concede defeat!
