I have a customer who brought in this Samsung multistandard VCR, model#
SV5000W, after moving here from England, that she claims was working okay
until one day she connected a camcorder to it and there was some type of
spark. Her complaint when she brought it in to me was that it plays back
okay but would not record. That is not entirely accurate, in fact it plays
and records normally using external video/audio inputs/outputs but does not
output anything from the tuner/RF modulator unit. If I try tune in from the
tuner but view it on my monitor in A/V out mode (since I have no RF output),
I have very distorted noisy video with no color or audio. There are also
these "interference lines" in the picture that modulate with what would be
the respective accompanying audio. I thought this would be an easy one
figuring I had a bad tuner/RF modulator given the symptoms and customer
description of what happened but I just installed a new tuner with the same
results. I do have the AL 33 volts, AL 5 volts, PC 5 volts to the tuner as
well as clock and data line activity that looks "normal" and unremarkable.
All measureable power supplies are on the money and clean. I do have good
video out of the tuner back to the syscon/servo section (the audio out from
the tuner is SIF). I am hoping one of you may be my saviour on this one!
