As an installer for both Dish and Direct, I can tell you that all the HD processing is done in the receiver. You can use either the Component Video or the standard video output into the appropriate jacks on the Toshiba. The Toshiba's HDMI connector is intended for use with OTA/Cable signals processed thru an HDMI receiver.
