Department of Urban Studies and Planning

Massachusetts Instituteof Technology

Tenure-track, untenured, faculty position

Seeking a full-time, tenure-track, untenured, faculty member at the
assistant or associate professor level in Urban Technologies and Information Systems. Experience should bridge across an information related field-- such as knowledge representation, geosciences, or simulation and modeling-- and a
planning related field such as the design of physical form, spatial
patterns, metropolitan infrastructure, spatial economics, or participatory planning. The use of information and communication technologies in meeting the needs of low-income and minority populations, as well as in promoting
sustainable design, is of special interest.

Candidate should be able to link her/his research agenda to one or more of the department's research clusters-City Design and Development; Housing, Community, and Economic Development; Environmental Policy; or International Development and Regional Planning. A Ph.D. or a terminal degree in their
field, with demonstrated professional or scholarly work is expected.

 Research Scientist position

Seeking to hire a non-tenure-track person at the rank of Research Scientist
or Principal Research Scientist, in the area of Urban Technologies and
Information Systems. This position is a multi-year, renewable appointment that is centered on research but will also involve limited responsibility for developing and teaching advanced classes and skill-building modules
related to communication and information technology. We expect that
externally funded research will eventually support most of the candidate's non-teaching salary. Some research start-up funding will be available during
the initial years.

MIT is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed
to increasing the diversity of our faculty. Women and members of
underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, writing sample related to research, a statement describing current teaching and research interests,
and the names/contact points of three references to:

Ms. Janice O'Brien

Please indicate the position for which you are applying at the top of your letter. Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2006, and continue
until the positions are filled.
