The Urban Communication Foundation is pleased to announce two research and publication initiatives for 2006. The Urban Communication Foundation promotes and supports research in urban communication focusing on the intersection of communication technology, design, and human factors in the urban/suburban environment. The activities of UCF are designed to increase interest in urban communication research on the part of NCA members and scholars and acquaint external constituencies and communities with the value and relevance of communication research to their work UCF" Research Incentive Prize A grant of up to $2,000 will be awarded to fund communication research relevant to enhancing, understanding or improving the urban communication environment. The incentive award can be applied to the acquisition of resources, travel, and/or any other appropriate research related expenses. The UCF Research Incentive is open to all National Communication Association members. The proposals will be judged for both originality and potential impact of the completed study in heightening the understanding of issues, problems and policies in the urban/suburban landscape. Applications should include a statement in no more than two pages describing the nature and significance of the project in relatively non-technical terms; anticipated schedule (expected completion time); plans for dissemination of the project results, and budget. You may wish to include an additional two-page appendix for bibliography, photos, figures, etc. Applications should be sent to either Professor Gary Gumpert ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or Professor Susan J. Drucker ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and should be accompanied by a CV. The award recipient will be obligated to complete the research and provide the UCF with a report of research results. Urban Communication Foundation Publication Award The Urban Communication Foundation seeks nominees for its second annual publication award. The award will honor the outstanding publication by an NCA member in the area of urban communication published in 2005-2006. Publications included books, chapters, journal articles, magazine articles, films and radio or television programs. The award brings with it a $1,000 prize. Each nomination should include two supporting letters, a copy of the nominated work and a brief statement exploring the relevancy and impact of the nominated work to the broad theme of urban communication. The deadline for both proposals is September 15, 2006.
