That's a relief! Thanks for that - My CPAN search didn't show up the 5.10 version, which surprised me; my fu isn't strong on Monday mornings. So POD allows URLs but not HTML elements, which seems desirable to me for translation to other output formats. And so I think that means the patch is broken, as well as the original. I guess it needs something like: First of all, make sure that your template files define a Byte Order Mark (BOM, see L<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_Order_Mark>).
