2nd Annual Word Houses, Visual Journals & Idea Catchers Exhibition call for artists

The inner workings of an artist's mind are always a curiousity--and because most artists
keep a series of idea books that demonstrate the "making of" many of their most important
pieces, we're offering this "Word Houses, Visual Journals and Idea Catchers" show to de-
mystify artist's journals and to illuminate the process of their making. This show will feature
journal works in progress, wordhouses, random sketches, illustrated discovery journals,
watercolor journals, found-object journals, audio journals, video journals, "Artist's Way"
morning pages journals, lomo journals and other ways artists keep track of thoughts and
ideas. Pages from selected journals will be blown up as posters to hang throughout the
space. Journals will be on display and accessible for viewers to touch and read. Works of art
made from journals or made as a result of journaling are also invited for
exhibition consideration. Additionally, throughout the show, we'll be offering various journal
playshops and classes.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Send an email expressing your interest to The Red Dragonfly ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
and 1-3 jpegs of your work. Participation is $25 for artists. Artists will be able to offer a class
on some aspect of the journaling process and/or offer products for sale in our boutique. In
addition all artists will be recognized as participants in show promotions. Artists and
teachers will recieve 60% of class, art & product sales revenue and 40% will go back to the
project.

ARTIST JOURNALS
If you would like to exhibit your journal(s) please choose one to 1-3 of your best journals
and send jpegs to us. You may drop off work for display on January 18th, and put it in our
gallery to be on display until February 19th, 2005. Please remember, during the open hours
of the gallery, and during receptions and workshops, your journals may be handled and read
by gallery patrons.

ART JOURNAL PRODUCTS
If you would like to create some products to inspire the community to journal, please start
creating or collecting ideas. Finished products will need to be ready January 18th and
dropped off with your journals. If you are making items like coloring books or
pens...consider creating 9 or more to create the look of volume in our little journal shop!
Please make sure your items are labeled and priced when you drop them off.

AUCTION JOURNALS
If you want to participate in making a journal for auction, please let us know. Journals can be
any size or type you like...Proceeds from the auction will be split 60%/40% between the artist
& project. These auction journals need to be dropped off on January 18th with the rest of
your work for display or sale. The auction will be a silent one, the idea being that it will
create repeat traffic from patrons committed to purchasing a specific journal. Different
Journals will have different auction close dates as a way of keeping repeat traffic coming in to
participate in the auction. Some journals will be selected for on-line auctions on e-bay.

PLAYSHOPS
If you would like to provide a 1 - 2 hour Playshop on some aspect of the Journaling process
just let us know. Provide us with the name of the Playshop and provide us with a short
description by Nov 30th.

We will work to HELP you fill your Playshop with students by creating a Playshop Calendar to
be distributed from November 2004 to February 2005, but the marketing of your class is up
to you. The goal here is to inspire people to journal, create and have fun. If even one person
signs up for your playshop, we expect you to hold the class. This is a great opportunity to
offer a workshop you've been developing or promote an existing class you offer.

OPEN MIC
If you are willing to read from your journal-no more than a ten minute slot-please let us
know that, too. The open mic will be held on the reception night-for up to an hour during
the reception. You can read from your own journal or from a famous artist's journal.
