Yes, Enhanced Speedstep for Intel proccesors should be available very
soon and PowerNow! for some set of AMD processors should follow pretty
closely behind it. These should help with battery life. Future work in
the CPU PM area will include better policy choices. Initially, we'll
just be providing automatic CPU power management (i.e., CPU scaling back
during idle periods). I can easily imagine laptop users wanting the
ability to force their processors to run at the lowest supported
frequency until they say otherwise.
