The problems are predominantly framebuffers, and to some extent the
lack of hardware/bios's to POR them on resume from S3. It has taken
us a while to get information from the two big veendors such that we
might actually have a chance in getting drivers that will resume (the
suspend part, is very easy, getting it to resume properly is the
pain). And at this point, we are still having problems with what we
have.
IMHO, to get a decent spectrum of support, it is important that
vendors (laptop and graphics chips) and Sun make this task a high
priority and allocate (or divert) resources to this task. Without
serious vendor support we won't get the information needed. And
without Sun support, we won't get desired resources
