Hi Alan, I'm afraid we can't really offer support for FreeOCR, I suggest you ask the people who develop it for help.
I sincerely doubt your problem could be related to graphics drivers though, and would advise you to take advice from people on the internet with a grain of salt ;) (not that it's easy to tell which advice is sensible and which is not at first, admittedly).
