David,
In of the testing meetings I had suggested that the White Paper should not list any
vendor but the suggestion had been shot down.
The main contents of the paper have more longevity and have reference value.
Information in Appendix A is of transient nature and should be removed.

May I make another suggestion to the group? There is also the
possibility
to add all vendors to the WEDI SNIP website under vendor solutions and
remove vendors from the white papers. That would keep white papers
informational and not advertisements. As I am responsible for "HIPAA
Resources" and other pages on the WEDI SNIP website and I am currently
in
process of creating a new design layout for the vendor solutions page
and
wouldn't mind suggesting this change to the board. Just an idea... but
it
does eliminate constant updates to all the white papers for new vendors
requesting additions/deletions and removes the burden from all the other
WED
SNIP workgroup co-chairs and consolidates them into one place.
Thoughts?

Ruth,
I understand what you are saying about vendors being connected to a
particular white paper but that is not intuitive looking at the
appendix.
Having vendors lumped together in the tesing/Certification column will
only frustrate everybody. If I get contacted, which I did just
yesterday, about certification products I have to refer them to another
vendor. If I refer organizations to this new white paper and everybody
is lumped together they may call numerous vendors before they find the
one they want.
I might as well add the reality check in this discussion. As far as I
am aware the only organization that offers 'cerfitication' is Claredi.
There is no sense hiding this and if anybody else wants to offer
'cerfitication' that is fine as well. I don't think having a 3rd column
that adds clarification is a lot to maintain but I realize I am not
doing the maintenance.

I am hoping there are no other comments about adding additional columns.
There was a management decision to compress the vendor appendix, which I
agree with, but I think it still needs to be useful. Thanks.

It is my understanding that the "columns" are to show that the "reason"
the
vendor is on the list at all is because they are mentioned in reference
to a
"specific" white paper. Not to classify vendors ... that becomes
maintenance that we don't want to do. The "vendor" classification
columns
would then become "infinite" per each vendor's definition of "what they
do".

We should just keep the columns to the white papers that they are
associated
with.

Catherine,
I agree with your efforts that the appendix should just be a vendor
listing with contacts. The only suggestion I have would be to add a
third column to separate 'Testing/Certification Vendor' into 'Testing
Vendor' and 'Certification Vendor'. It does mislead people that
everybody in the 'Testing/Certification' column does certification.
Speaking for GEFEG we do not currently do certification. Thanks for
your efforts.

Subject: New White Paper Appendix - Vendors please review!

In an effort to create a maintainable and equitable listing of
Transaction
Vendors the Translation and Testing Sub-Workgroups have decided to join
together and establish a single (and hopefully more efficient) "Appendix
A"
for their respective white papers.

As you are probably aware, Appendix A of the Testing and Certification
white paper and the Translator white paper list vendors who provide
solutions (products and/or services) that address the issues raised in
the
white papers. The purpose of the appendix is to assist the readers of
the
white paper in finding a solution to aid them in their translation or
testing/certification needs.

The new Appendix A is basically a "phone book" and simply includes the
company name, key contact information, a link to the company's website,
and
an indication of the solutions provided (either Translation and/or
Testing/Certification).

If you are a vendor, please review the listing and make sure that your
contact information is listed correctly. If any of you on this
listserve
are aware of another vendor in either category (Translation or
Testing/Certification) please let me know so their name can be included
on
this list.

It is our intention that the new, consolidated Appendix A will be
included
on both the Translation and Testing/Certification white papers and will
be
posted on the WEDI website. Perhaps in the future we can also include
vendors that provide Privacy and Security solutions as well.

Thank you for you assistance!
