Thank you for bringing this thread over to the "testing" mailing list where it belongs.
There is real functionality in having the vendor list in the white paper itself. Not everybody likes to read this stuff on line. Personally I do a lot of reading while on the road, airports, airplanes, etc., without access to the Internet. As long as we can keep the list a neutral list instead of free advertising for the vendors, it is OK. For instance, the pricing column should either have the price or be blank. The word "Call" does not belong there. Call who? Call WEDI for pricing? But even with the amount of advertising in the list today, it is not too bad. It is better to have a vendor-provided description of the product than nothing at all. The list in the testing white paper is a list of products. Some vendors list one product. Other vendors list more than one product. This, effectively gives more visibility to the vendors that list multiple products because they get multiple entries. One way to correct that is to make it list vendors instead. One entry per vendor with a maximum of so many inches of column space to describe their products. I still think the product descriptions are useful, but a compromise would be to have no product descriptions at all. Perhaps some reduced functionality description, reduced to whether the product is standalone or a service, the testing types, whether it offers certification or not, and stuff like that. Perhaps we can convert the current table into a set of columns with check-boxes so it is more objective and not so bulky. Is this a topic for discussion on Thursday?
