Everybody: I have come across a very cool free HIPAA testing & certification portal run by Edifecs.
It's called HIPAA-Desk, and is an online Testing & Certification service. Go to www.hipaadesk.com and request an account, with which you can submit your data files to the (web-based) portal and check for compliance against the HIPAA Implementation guidelines--the compliance checking is performed for types 1-6 as recommended by WEDI/SNIP along with compliance checks against the HIPAA specific business rules, code-sets and databases. HIPAA-Desk also gives users access to the HIPAA implementation guidelines for online review or download. This entire service is complimentary--Edifecs is providing it as an introductory look at their company and products--they license similar proprietary software. We've been using it, it seems solid, and looks like it should be a huge help for anyone doing HIPAA transaction compliance testing.
