Are you quite sure that this is what you want?
A book may be edited by one person, or several people, and contain
contributions by others.
Or it may be written by one or more people.

For the first you use the editor filed; for the second you use the
author field.  Standard style files include a check the ensure that
you don't use both for a book.

If you want to quote a chapter by Lamport in a book edited by Knuth
the entry you want is of type inbook - with booktitle for the title of
the book.  Something like - if it is chapter 4, on pages xxvii to
xliv in the book:

@inbook{grossklaus:1998,
author        ={Lamport, L.},
title         ={LaTeX and BibTeX},
chapter       =4,
pages         ={xxvii-xliv},
editor        ={Knuth, D.},
booktitle     ={BibTeX 4 dummies},
publisher     ={Addison Wesley},
edition=      ={},
year          ={2001},
}

Could you clarify just what the entry is to cover?
