No!!! I do know that there are people at a university computing center
which get paid for helping the users. Just denying help is not
acceptable! By the way, as a student, I have been working withing
a computing center of a university.

Of course they have to do many things. But helping the users for a
sensible project definitely belongs to their duties.
And this problem has been around for several months (!) now.

I am sure that Thomas didn't make this announcement before trying to get
help.
The primary purpose of a university is teaching and research (or the
other way round) and ANYBODY doing administration of any kind has to
support this primary goal. This hasn't to do anything with being
scientific or not.
